World of Warcaft Tank Guide

Tanking is hard, just because your tank does it well this time around doesn't mean the next one you get sucks. Remember the tank is the only thing protecting you from a fireball to the face. Be kind to your tank, he is working hard to keep you alive. Anyway to learn how to tank read on.

Main tank: His job is to hold all the aggro so that the DPS can wittle down the monster to a smoking pile of flesh with out the monster doing the same to them, at the same time he needs to keep the healers proteced so that they can in turn keep him alive. Killing monsters is all about aggro management the tank needs to have the most aggro no matter what.

Off-tank: The defenition of an off-tank is a player that can safely and effectively tank one enemy. The off tank would hold one or more enemies just in case the tank cannot hold all of them. Off tanks can range from Rogues to Shamans, Palidins, Druids or Hunters, as long as they can hold the mob without dieing, or useing too much mana to keep alive.

General main tank requirements: There are only two really good tank classes, warrior (defensive stance) and druid (bear form), most people have a natural discrimination on feral druids shadow priests and fury warriors all class can do thier job, they are just specialised in one.

High level dungeon main tank requirements: High armor and lots of health, generaly go with a warrior spec isn't really important unless you are trying to for 20-40 man raids prot talents are very helpful.

Tips and tricks:

* There is no big bar of aggro, or a spreadsheet of how much aggro an attack causes, just a few words on the too tip "this causes high threat" you click that button to make the monster aggro you.

* Leave to others what they can handle themselves. For example, if a mage is attacked by a single enemy and you aren't close, he will cast
polymorph. Watch the rogues, they can handle themselves for a certain amout of time they can stun the mob for about 5 seconds or longer, but the longer you wait the harder it will be to pull the aggro off of them.

* Enemies that aren't being attacked are very easy to pull, a single hit or spell can make them turn on you.

* Since the enemies will be following you, you are responsible for making sure they take maximum damage from aoe spells. This means if you see them casting an AOE pull the monsters into it.

Tanking with warrior/druid:

Taunt is your main weapon, it almost always pulls the targeted enemy. Sunder armor and mocking blow are rage/aggro-effective abilities, so spam
away, and save bash/disarm to drop the damage or to stop spells on mobs you don't have time to pull. Blood rage is fine to use but do not use Bezerker rage, the armor reduction and HP loss will likely end up in a wipe.

Tanking with paladin:

Using Seal of fury, and having cast blessing of salvation on everyone you think needs it, you yourself under your plate can hold aggro for a time, but your first priory must be to heal or protect the casters. Save Hammer Of Justice for when you need to stop runners or help the casters get away from mobs.
